ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Wellington, Last Night
The conference of New Zealand School Committees was concluded to-day. Remits were passed reaffirming the necessity for free school books, also standardised books for all schools; the appointment of full-time caretakers to ensure the cleanliness of schools, in view of the prevalence of epidemics; that forty be the maximum number of pupils in any class; and that free and compulsory medical and dental treatment be provided by the State for all children attending State schools. Officers were elected as follows: —President, Mr A. Pevcrill (Christchurch); vice-pre-sidents, Messrs J. K. Hornblow (Foxton), S. G. Smith, M.P. (Taranaki), R. S. Potter, M.P. (Auckland); and W. 11. Steele (Otago; secretary and treasurer, A. J. White (Wellington); committee, Mrs Snow (Wellington), Messrs H. C. Le Grange (Manawatu), E. Eyre (Wellington), Sidey, M.P. (Otago), Atmore, M.P. (Nelson), J. W. Henderson (Wairarapa), and W. Bruce (Wanganui).
