THE GREAT McEWEN.

MONDAY NIGHT

The Great McEwen Coy., who finish a nine-nights season at Palmerston North to-night, and who appear in Foxton on Monday evening, have 4eceived flattering press reports all over the country the following being from a Palmerston paper: — “Many of the audience who witnessed the initial performance given by the Great McEwen, in Everybody’s Theatre on Thursday evening, were again among the numerous patrons of the show for last evening’s performance. Conscious of the impression he had left on I heir minds the previous evening, they were convinced.that he would be able to show them still more wonders of science and legerdemain, and they were not disappointed.. The sophisticated audience of to-day demands from any performance those essentials of real entertainment, versatility and originality. They get both of these from the Great McEwen, with a certain amount of education along novel lines in addition. Unlike the majority of mesmerists and magicians, McEwen does not appeal merely to the imagination of his audience. He gives them, in lucid explanation, some thing further to go on, and really interests them in his various acts, while keeping thoroughly amused with a stream of wholesome and original patter, relieved by serious effort to interest them in bis scientific experiments. The possibilities of the human brain when subjected to severe concentration provide McEwen with the subject matter for a great number of his most mystifying, and at, the same time, entertaining and educative stunts. Every act discloses the mastery which McEwen has attained in the dual role of entertainer and educalor. The Great McEwen is ably assisted in his performance by Miss Helm Saint, a gifted elocutionist.
