THE GREAT McEWEN
The ManaAvatu Standard says of the Great McEAven Co., Avho are appearing at the Town Hall on Monday next, 17th inst.: “Though there was a large attendance present at Everybody’s Theatre on Thursday evening, that Avhich assembled last night to witness the performance of the. Great McEwen was considerably greater in number and more expectant than curious—they had come to see an entertainment out of the ordinary, and such they certainly suav, Mr McEwen commenced his programme Avith a series of mind-reading tests, These he performed with the aid of a committee. In all the difficult tests he never once failed, though the tasks set him were by no means simple of accomplishment. One which earned the approbation of the audience Avas the selection of the oAvner of a book. Mr McEAA r en was blindfolded, and one of the committee of local residents obtained the book from a member of the audience. No Avord Avas spoken, but the bandage Avas removed from Mr McEAven’s eyes and htC.walked among the audience, suddenly selecting the very man to Avhom the book belonged. A clever presentation of the box trick and exhibitions of what may be done by means of hypnotism and mesmerism brought a wonderful entertainment to a close. The antics of the hypnotic subjects Avere uproariously funny. Miss Heba Saint, an elocutionist of ability, Avho assists Mr McEwen, rendered some enjoyable readings, and Avas heartily applauded.” Popular prices will be charged in Foxton, viz., 2s Gd, ,1s 6d, and Is for children, plus tax.
