THE BEACH ROAD.
At yesterday’s meeting of ‘the Foxton Harbour Board a letter was lead from the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, calling the Board’s attention to the dangerous cutting at the Beach, and suggesting that giving access to the river foreshore the road be straightened, as the cutting was a menace to the safety of children. Mr Barber said a similar letter had been received by the Manawatu County Council, and the engineer had been instructed to inspect and report. The total in rates received from the locality was TO 5s Od. Mr Bock suggested that the residents' should assist in improving matters by contributing to the cost of the work, or, failing that, constitute a special rating area, and raise a loan.
, The Chairman (Mr Linklater) said the Beach road was in a bad state of repair. He did not agree that the Beach residents should be specially rated for the upkeep of the road, as it was used by the general public, and the residents were only in occupation at the locality for about two months in the year. In answer to the Chairman, Mr Barber said the ratgs since the adoption of rating on the unimproved value had dropped from £3O to £6 10s.
It was decided to write the Chamber of Commerce and inform them that the Manawatu County had the matter in hand, and no doubt action would be taken in the matter.
