MARRIAGE

SLADE—McEWEN.

A wedding which created much local interest took place in the Presbyterian Church, at noon yesterday, when Mona Ruby, only daughter of Mr and Mrs D. McEwen, of Foxton, was united to Leslie George Slade, youngest son of Mrs J. Berry, of Westport. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Thos. Halliday. The service was fully choral, the bride being a member of the choir. Miss Patterson presided at the organ. The church was prettily decorated for the occasion by lady members of the congregation. The bride, escorted by her father, was attired in white georgette, trimmed with filet lace. The bride wore the orthodox veil and orange blossoms, and carried a beautiful bouquet of cream and pink roses, white stocks and asparagus fern, with pink satin streamers. The bouquet was the gift of Miss Patterson. Miss Eileen Cummerfield, the bridesmaid, was attired in apricot crepe-de-ehene, trimmed with gold beads, black hat with oriental crown, and bouquet of westeria, with heliotrope streamers. Mr E. McEwan (brother of the bride) officiated as best man. Upon 'eaving the church, the bridal party were well sprinkled with confetti. Relatives and intimate friends were subsequently entertained at breakfast in the Moutoa Tea Rooms, when the usual toasts and felicitous speeches were made. The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was a hand-bag, and to the bridesmaid a gold bangle. The bride’s travelling dress was sax blue, with hat to match. The bride and bridegroom were the recipients of many useful presents,' including several sub--tantial cheques. The honeymoon s to be spent in the Wairarapa, after which Mr and Mrs Slade will Lake up their residence in Foxton. In common with the happy couple’s many Foxton friends, the “Herald” joins in wishing them health and happiness.
