A man named Peter McKinnon, aged about 40 years, was found dead on the roadside at Kakatahi yesterday. The deceased had been working in the locality for about four days, and previously resided at Raetihi.

Mr Justice Ilerdman allowed an appeal by an inspector against the decision of Mr Cullen, S.M., in dismissing a case against Walter Buchanan, baker, charged with celling short-weight bread. Defendant had stated when selling the bread that it was not Under lib. 140 z., and might be 21b., which the magistrate accepted as a compliance with (lie Act, but Mr Justice Hcrdman held that the purchaser was entitled to know the true weight of the loaf supplied, and should not he left in any doubt. The case was referred hack to the magistrate.
