METHODIST CHURCH
A meeting of the officials of the Methodist Church Quarterly Board was held in the Church on Thursday evening. Almost every oilicial was present, including representatives from Shannon anti Oroua Downs. The Rev. T. R. Richards, of Napier (chairman of the District), presided. Income for the quarter showed a decided increase in every part of the circuit. Iu some eases the returns showed a record. The financial position was considered most satisfactory. Reports fi'orii the. various Sunday schools revealed an increase of scholars for the year. A report was received stating that the new District. Orphanage at Masterton was nearing completion, and would he opened next month. Arrangements were made for orphanage retiring collections the Sunday before Christmas. Foxton Sunday school was granted a special Sunday for its anniversary.during the quarter. Mr John Clirystall and Mr M. 11. Walker were appointed delegates to the District Synod, to be held at Napier early next month. Substitute representatives, Mrs L. Bullard and. Mrs Minitie. The Quarterly Board extended, through tile Chairman, a most cordial invitation to the Hawke’s Bay-Manawatu Ministerial Council to meet in Foxton next year, when it is expected upwards of twenty ministers will be present. The Circuit Steward (Mr L. Bullard) extended on behalf of the officials a hearty invitation to the Rev. L. Minifie to accept the charge of the Foxton Circuit for another year. Reference was made ta the progress of the church work under the direction of the minister. Other members supported the invitation, voicing appreciation of the work being done in connection with the church. The invitation was carried unanimously. The Rev. L. Minific intimated his pleasure in being able to accept the invitation extended, thanking the officials and people 'for their hearty support of his work as minister. A committee was set up to deal with the sale of the Centenary Book of the N.Z. Church, “Centenary Sketches o: f N.Z. Methodism,” by the Rev. W. J. Williams, editor of the N.Z. Methodist Times. It was also decided that an endeavour be made to increase locally the circulation of the paper of the N.Z. Methodist Church. Messrs Oxley and Bullard were appointed auditors of the circuit accounts. The meeting closed with the Benediction. At the close of the business the officials were entertained at supper by Mrs L. Bullard and Miss Henry.
