FOXTON TENNIS CLUB
The annual meeting of members of (be above Club is advertised to take place in All Saints’ schoolroom at 7.30 o’clock this evening, whe/vjt is hoped there will be a good ance of members and members present. The balancesheet and report will be submitted, and officers elected for the current year.
The following report will be submitted at the meeting:— “Your Committee has pleasure in submitting to you the annual report and balance- sheet. The past season has been a moderately successful one, members displaying more enthusiasm towards the latter end. Two inter-club matches were played, one with Terrace End, and one with Levin, both clubs beating us. If the present playing of a number of players is any indication, we should be more successful in inter-club matches for the coming season. Members are urged to encourage new blood into the Club as much as possible, as a good membership is essential for a club that, wishes to be successful. Finance: As you will see by the accompanying balancesheet, the Club’s overdraft is £ll4, an increase of about £2 on the year’s working, which, you will agreej is a satisfactory state of affairs. As a result of the picture entertainment held last November, in I he Town Hall, over £lO was net ted. We are indebted to Mr Reid for bis generosity in connection with the entertainment. The necessary expense for the coming season will be as follows: A new fence at the top end of the courts, posts, etc., for Watson Street fence, and a new wire for one of the nets. If the aImve items are attended to immediately, the courts will be in no further need of repair for some time to come. The expenses for the ineomng season should be comparatively light, provided members roll up to ‘working bees,’ enabing expenses to be kept at a minimum. The courts were top-dressed at the beginning of last season, and a new fence put up at the lower end of the courts, which requires completing. The memberhip of (he Club now stands at 42, and next season should see a fair increase. In conclusion, your Committee, in retiring from office, desires to thank the members for their support and assistance during the past season, and wish the incoming Committee success and prosperity during the coming season.”
The balance-sheet discloses that : lie season commenced with an overdraft of £ll2 19s 2d, and closed with an overdraft of £ll4 15s 4d. The receipts totalled £O2 12s 9d, of which £36 19s 0d was subscriptions. The main items of expenditure were: 'fop-dressing courts £lO 8s Od, rates and tar £9 11s Od, interest £B, tennis balls £9 18s Od. The statement of assets and liabilities shows an excess of assets over liabilities of £BS Is Bd.
