CRICKET
The meeting called for Thursday evening last to resuscitate the Foxton Cricket Club was rather poorly attended, but nevertheless those present .decided to push on with the organising of local cricket, and by resolution of the meeting it was unanimously decided to form a club, the annual subscription to be 7s 6d. Mr H. M. Carter was unanimously elected secretary, The meeting decided that further business be postponed until those present had worked up enthusiasm amongst those known to be interested in the sport. A practice will be held on the Victoria Park pitch oil “Wednesday afternoon next, when intending members are invited to be present. It is calculated that there are in Foxton a good number of young men who follow cricket, and once the practical side of the sport is put into operation, cricket circles will go aliead in a satisfactory manner. It is very satisfactory to note that oldtime enthusiasts who are now past, the age of active participation, are offering practical support in the way of donations and membership fees. The secretary will be pleased to enter the name of any supporter, either active or otherwise, on the list, which will enable members to purchase necessary material and settle down to serious practice. It is unnecessary to say that the game of cricket offers one of the finest forms of recreation that can be conceived, and for the sake of this summer sport, and the interests of the young men in our midst, a special endeavour is being made to definitely establish the game in Foxton this year.
A further meeting will be called by the secretary to go into necessary details.
