SACRED CONCERT.
The Western Engineers (Palmerston N.) visited Foxlon on Sunday with an orchestral and concert party, and gave an open-air instrumental concert in the afternoon in. Victoria. Park, and a concert in the Town Hall in the evening. Owing to the threatening weather there was only a moderate attendance at the Park, but a large and appreciative audience was present at the evening concert. Owing to the unavoidable absence of several of the visiting singers and instrumentalists, their places were filled by local talent. Mrs 11. Osborne, Messrs 11. Osborne and Moorman assisted in the orchestra, and Mesdames McDonald and Freeman contributed vocal items. The proceeds of the concert were in aid of the “Help the Mothers" Fund, by the Palmer-don Western Engineers. The orchestral items, under the baton of Mr Percy Flynn, were much appreciated. The singing of Mr Ernest Drake, who is reputed to be Australasia’s lending tenor, was keenly appreciated. His rendering of the “Minstrel Brfy” was a finished interpretation. His recalls included a selection from Italian opera and “Mary O Neil. Other contributors to the programme were Mesdames Freeman and McDonald, Miss Hancock (elocutionary), Messrs Blandford, Bell, and Fisher. A plaintive Hawiian farewell song, with ukulele accompaniment, was much appreciated. The accompaniments were played by Mr Walpole. Mr Daunchy, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the public, and particularly the local performers, for assisting the Engineers’ effort. The concert concluded with the National Anthem. As a result of the concert, about £2O was raised.
