MEETING OF UNION.
A meeting of the Management Committee of the Ilorowlienua Rugby Union was held at Levin on Tuesday evening. A letter was read from the Oroua Union, accepting July 27th as the date for a representative match at Levin [lt has since been decided to play this match at Foxton.] The Wairarapa Union wrote asking if Horowhenua would play home and home junior rep, games this season, and also inviting a rep. senior team to "visit Wairarapa, and pointing out that Horowhenua owed Wairarapa a visit,— It was decided to suggest to Wairarapa that their junior reps, should visit Levin on August 27th, and the Horowhenua senior reps, will visit Masterlou the same day. The Otaki Club wrote asking that the game played against Old Boys, and which resulted in a draw, should be awarded to them, as the Old Bovs had played senior players whom the Uniox. had refused to reinstate as juniois.—The protest was unheld, and a protest from the Old Boys Club on the ground that Otaki had played a senior player was dismissed, the player in question having been reinstated. In connection with the Foxton juniors’ protest against Levin on the ground that one of their players (Norman) was a League player, a reply was received from the New Zealand Union, advising that there was no record of Norman having played-the League game, and the protest was accordingly dismissed. It was decided to request the secretary of the Foxton Club and the captain of the Foxton Junior team t o attend the next meeting of the Committee and give an explanation of their action in playing a man under a name other thifn his own, and with attempting to mislead the Committee as to the man’s identity. Applications from Foxton and Levin for the reinstatement of Reihana And Heremaia as juniors were refused, and it was decided that no more reinstatements will be granted this year. It was decided to write to the Wanganui and Awarua Unions, asking them to repay the visits owing Jo Horowhenua this year.
The Wellington Union wrote regretting that they were unable to play a junior representative fixture with Horowhenun this year. It was decided that the fixtures for the third rounds of the senior and junior competitions should be the same as the first round, with the exception that the Shannon-Kuku senior game be played at Kuku, instead of Shannon. SPRINGBOK 18 v. WA IK AKA PA 3. The Springboks decisively defeated Wairarapa and Bush reps-, at Masterton yesterdiiy, by IS* points to 3. Wairarapa was outclassed, and the Springboks were not called upon to fully extend themselves. This was particularly noticeable in the second half. Several of the Wairarapa players were injured during the game. Several of the visiting star players did not participate, being held in reserve for the match against Wellington on Saturday. About 8,000 people witnessed the game, and £BOO represented the gate receipts. The Springboks were accorded a splendid welcome, and were hospitably entertained by the civic authorities.
