CIVIL SERVANT’S LAPSE.
FIFTEEN MONTHS’ HARD
LABOUR
Wanganui, Yesterday
Harold John Salmond, a civil servant, who pleaded guilty to the theft of £333 13s lid from the Native Land Court, was sentenced to fifteen months’ hard labour by Mr Justice Husking, who stated that, unfortunately, in the public service these eases had been rather frequent. Possibly the offenders had been dealt with too leniently. The object of punishment was to deter others from doing likewise. He would be lacking in his duty if he did not impose a term of imprisonment. if*
