ROYAL PICTURES.

The programme screened last night will be repeated to-night. “Children Not Wanted,” the star attraction for Friday evening, features a new star in the motion picture firmament in the person of lovely Edith Day, whose smashing success in the New York comedy, “Irene,” is a matter of history. It can be described as a mystery drama, featuring a sensational murder, and the practices of an international gang of sharpers, and also dealing with the fact that nowadays, in dealing with the acute housing problem, children are nol wanted, but dogs are welcome. “Children Not Wanted” is a drama involving many phases of life. In addition to being a thorough-going entertainment, it deals with an every day problem that is felt as much in New Zealand as elsewhere. In addition to being a powerful dramatic performance, it marks the entry into screen stardom of Edith Day, who for two years lias been the musical comedy rage of Broadway, in “Irene.” “Children Not Wanted” shows that Miss Day is gifted with extraordinary versatility, and is destined to shine on the silent screen as she has on the musical .comedy stage.
