NO RISE IN BUTTER

GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY OF TWOPENCE. WINTER SUPPLY ASSURED. Auckland, April .18. The Dairy Companies .have reduced the selling price of their but-’ ter by a penny a pound, says Mr No-worthy, Minister of Agriculture. The price to the consumer will remain unaltered, this being brought about by a subsidy of 2d per lb. instead of 3d per II). as was the case from April Ist, and (id as had been the case from October last until the end of March. Provision would also be.made later on to assist towards storage and interest charges upon butter which would he held in store for the purpose of ensuring supplies during the later winter months when considering the price to be charged for winter butter.

The Dairy Foctories first asked for a net price of 2s 4id, and later reduced this to 2s Id. Finally they have agreed to a further reduction to 2s Old. Observations have been kept on the amount of butter produced of late. All the evidence available goes to show that butter made since April Ist, and to be made during the remainder of the autumn and early winter will be sufficient to meet requirements without any being available for export which is prohibited save with the prior consent of the Minister of Customs.
