FIRE IN WELLINGTON
LANKSHEAR’S PRINTING WORKS GUTTED. M Wellington, March 31. This evening a fire broke out in the first floor of the printing works of Lankshear's, Ltd., 22 Harris Street, which spread rapidly. Although the weather was fine and calm, and- motor reels from all the fire brigade stations were quickly oil the scene, the flames were soon soaring high, and after an hour’s tight the fire was practically extinguished. Lankshear’s printing works were gutted, and the electrical goods of Tolley and Son suffered severely from water, as also did the soft goods stock of Dawson and Maudslev, whose premises adjoin Lankshear’s. No insurances were available this evening. Reid and Reid, whose premises also adjoin Lankshear’s, had their stock of oils, paints, soap, writing paper, etc., damaged by water to the extent of a few hundred pounds. Their stock is covered by a policy in the Commercial Union office.
