LONDON WOOL SALES,
Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from London, dated 7th March, 1921: — “Wool sales have closed. As compared with January closing sales, the present series biosing sales show, best merinos 5 per • cent, lower, merino wools of other descriptions 25 per cent, cheaper, line crossbreds and medium crossbreds 25 per cent, cheaper, coarse crossbreds 30 per cent, lower.”
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated sth instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Meat. —Horae killed in small supply, but prices are easier in view of large supply of imported. Quotations are: Beef Is 41d, mutton Is Sd, lamb 2s per lb. Beef, Argentine chilled, ox, binds 11 Jd to Is per lb., fores 74d to 8d per lb.; Argentine frozen, ox, binds lid to llJd per lb., fores 7d to 74(1 per lb. New Zealand, not much being sold owing to large supply of Argentine. Prices are: Ox, hinds 9d to 10Jd per lb., fores 0J d to 7d per lb,, cow, hinds 74d to BJd per lb., fores 54d to 64d per lb., but lower prices being- accepted for very plain quality. New Zealand wethers realising maximum price of 9d per lb., but ewes are being sold by stall-hold-ers without profit at 7gd per lb. Imperial Government New Zealand lamb, chiefly fores uncut, selling at Is per lb. Poor .demand for cut lamb. New Zealand lamb from United States selling at Is o}d c.i.f., and Is OJd to Is Id per lb. on market, depending on condition and demand. Free New Zealand lamb ox “Surrey” in good demand at maximum price of Is Id iter lb. changed at £l4 18s 8d per cwt. wholesale, and 3s per lb. retail. Irish, supplies irregular owing to difficulty in obtaining license to export; new, unsalted, worth up to £lO per cwt. (3s 4:{d per lb.); creamery irregular at about £ls per cwt. (2s 8d per lb.). Export price of Danish reduced last week to £lO lbs per cwt. (Is lOd per lb.), f.o.b. Danish production steady at 35,000 casks per week. Cheese. —English scarce, but slow sales owing.to demand for cheaper ports; quotations £8 8s to £9 2s per cwt. (Is (id to Is 74d per lb.). Canadian: supply limited and market is firm at £7 14s to £7 18s per cwt. (Is 44d to Is 4?d per lb.) white, and £8 to £8 2s per cwt. (approximately Is s]d per lb.) coloured. New Zealand in good request at,
white £7 7s to £7 10s per cwt. (3s
3ld to Is 4d per lb.), coloured £7 18s to £8 per cwt. (approximately Is 5d per lb.); latter scarce. Casein. —Latest information is that market is weak and prices arc falling. Quotations nominal. Rennet, French £93 10s; New Zealand £112; Australian £BS per ton. Wool sales close to-day. Market for crossbreds very irregular, and competition for coarser qualities, and particularly for slipcs and scoured unsatisfactory. .Average dosing values were: 60’s to 04’s (Merino) lod to 17d; s(i’s (super half bred) 14d to lGd; 50’s (halfbred) lOd to 12(1; 84’s (fine crossbred) 9d to lOd, 44’s to 46’s (medium crossbred) 74d to 84d; 30’s to 40’s (coarse crossbred) Od to J4d per lb. Honey. —Market very depressed. Finest quality quoted at 80s per cwt (84d per lb.), but only demand at this price is for absolutely white sorts. Inferior neglected, quoted at 45s per cwt. (4!d per lb.).
