CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.)

Sir. —Kindly allow me space in which to record my protest against tlie excessive charges made by the owners and drivers of taxis and motor lorries which run to Urn Beach during the holidays. ,fancy twenty-one shillings, in;a jolting motor lorry, for a faun Ay pf seven, which journey take-s about twenty minutes ultogeth and less on a car. "What I w*mld like to know is this: ’Who tt.Vi's the prices when --.-olnmcnee the journey in the borough '/ It seems they simply fix the price, which they have no legal .right to do. 1 fere we have them charging ■ three shillings ret it rn per head, yet lorries come from Palmerston'to Foxton, a return journey of over 50 uriles, for six shillings ■return, and some at live shilling.-!. And. further, on race- days local taxis and lonics have to lake mil an extra license to ply to the course. Yet some ply to the Beach without one. Why? This is a urn Her the local Council should control, the same as is done in other [daces, where the fjires are fixed by the Council. . To my mind the fares charged to the Beach locally is sheer robbery.—Yours, etc..
