RIFLE SHOOTING.
The Fox ton riflemen who journeyed li) Wanganui lor the v ,-diip Rifle .Meeting on Vi Tuesday last, returned on Tuesday (vening. The meeting was very well • attended and most successful, the contests being keen and eloso. The weather was tine and good for shooting on the first day, but show- - ■ ers of rain and a 'rieky wind on llu second made things unpleasant. The Eoxton representatives shot well, oh the average and collected altogcth- a er the sum'of £B. 8s 4d h( prizemoney. .Xolahamseores by the local men were: 48 (50) and 44 (35) at 500 yds.: 44 (50i at (100 yds.; 3fi (40) rapid, Service match, 200 .yds.,■: and .19 (20) application, 300 yds. In the champion teams mulch; Haweru came on top with 220. The local team seoml was not far below the winning teams. The two host aggregates were made by Messrs Head -and Frankland, 241 each, onl of 290. . The champion for the whole meeting was Rim. 11. C. Lovcday, brother to the King's Prize . man. 1 Riflemen at \Vanganui were greatly interested in Mr A. Barnard’s new type of aperture sight, also his patent safely ■appliance for lirenriiis. Those who witnessed a .demonstration by Mr Barnard were very enthusiastic, and most hopeful, for the Put are success and popularity of. the new sight among rifle shots everywhere. A shoot (non-trophy) will be held ; on Saturday morning next, for those wiio care to attend.
