EMPLOYEES’ UNION TO TAKE
SECRET BALLOT, A mass meeting of members of, the Manawatu Flaxworkers’ Union was held at Palmerston yesterday, representatives from all surrounding districts being present, to consider the demand for increased wages, and after a. conference lasting two hours, it was decided to submit the issues—whether to strike or to present their ease to the Arbitration Court —to a secret ballot. RAILWAY FREIGHTS. At Wellington on Tuesday a deputation from the New Zealand FJaxmi]lers , Association wailed upon the Prime Minister with a request that he would arrange for some decrease in the railway freight on hem)), pointing out that the recent increase in sonic cases amounted to over 200 per cent. Mr Massey promised to give full consideration to the representations made.
