COMMITTEE'S GOOD WORK. The Fox toil Beach Improvement Committee is foe donations to make this resort still more popular, and in so doing points out ihat it lias no funds in hand to undertake any work of importance. Money is urgently needed for the work of levelling and tilling’ round (he hall, while the tennis court also mptires to he tarred at once so as to lie available for this season. The tanks erected at the hall recently are now full, and this should overcome the former difficulty of providing Ihe public with good wafer. The committee expresses thanks to Mr Just for the light cost of trees, to Mr McM array and his assistants for help in making live tennis courts, to Captain Miller and Messrs McMnrray and McDonald for managing the sports and concert last summer, the. Manawatu Standard and Manawatu “Herald,” and also to the ladies. It is proposed to have a Christinas tree in the hall in conjunction with Ail Saints’ Children s Home on Christmas Eve for all the children on the beach, and the secretary would like to receive funds for this purpose. An election lor a committee is to bo held at (he end of this month, the present committee 1 icing Messrs A. G. Da wick (chairman), E. K. Holbein W. Turner, E. Frail, W . Dock, and A . Barber.

The committee’s report shows (hat the funds on November 30th amounted to £lB IBs, of -which £l2 16s 6d belonged to the piano fund. During the seven months ended November 30lh the committee received donations amounting to £2 10s and a grant for £2O for trees from the Fox ton Harbour Board. During that period £7 10s was spent on 1,000 trees, £3 7s Gd for freight and cartage, £3 11s 3d for posts and timber, £2 5s for use of piano, £7 10s for balance of cost- of tank, £5 6s 6d for spouting, etc., 12s 2d for cartage and freight, £6 3s 9d for timber and cartage, lls Id for nails and padlocks. In addition, Mr Linklater donated a 1,000-gallon tank, and Mr Holben three-fifths of the cost of a similar tank. From the above it will be seen that the committee is doing excellent work, and that donations which may be forwarded to the honorary secretary (Mr A. G. Dawiek) —will he expended to-the best possible advantage.
