AUCKLAND MURDER CASES.
AUTHOR of “SHERLOCK HOLMES' - AND DETECTIVE. Sir A. Conan Doyle, of the ti.uiKn.is book detee£iv*Dher- ’ iock Holmes,- whose scientific and analytical theories of ’the various ‘‘crimes” recorded in his memoirs were so absolutely interesting, has high praise for the New Zealand detective and police force. Referring to recent murder trials in flic Auckland districtin’ Arthur paid a high tribute to the skill of Detective-Sergeant Cummins, whom he complimented on Ins work in connection with the arrest, of Dennis Omm and Samuel John Thorn. Sir Conan had become familiar with the various aspects of Ihe two cases, and in his opinion Detective Cummins deserved the highest praise. Speaking of the police force generally, lie thought the members out here wore very efficient; it was, indeed, a surprise to him to find that they had made siich great progress. —N.Z. Times.
