SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present; Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Claris (secretary), Alexander, W’. Petrie, Stevenson, John Ross, and the head teacher (Mr Furrie). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Geo. Coley and Pcrreau. Resolved to investigate sanitation charge re Army •Hall temporary class-room, and if in order, to pay same. The purchase of school prizes was left in the hands of the head teacher. Correspondence was received from the Board re cancellation of septic tank proposal in favour of connecting with borough sewerage scheme, and stating that application for grant for shelter sheds would bo made, and that nothing would be done to latrines until site for sewerage connection has been decided. — Decided to approve of the Board's proposals, and to urge the construction of thc'shclter shods. —Finances were discussed at length, and it was resolved to urge upon the Board the payment of subsidies due on expenditure, as delay harrassed the Committee’s finances. Accounts were passed for payment. Mr Boss, visitor for the month, reported upon certain works. Resolved that same he given effect to, and sub-commit-tees were appointed to carry them arijja It was resolved that the Chairman and head teacher draw up schedule of duties for caretaker, and present same to next meeting for adoption, and that applications for position of caretaker he called for next year. The head teacher reported as follows: —Average attendances for past tour weeks, 387.5, 392, 388.5, 3(18; highest -100. lowest 208 (very wet day). The annual examinations have been completed, and promotions made; results of proficiency examination iml yet available; the result 01. the Year’s work is very satisfactory, de-

spite epidemics. The school won AS in prize money at the Palmerston Show, and nearly 300 entries were’ put in by pupils. The Committee was thanked for assistance and cooperation during the year. Uesolved that the staff be complimented on the successful work exhibited at both the district and local exhibitions, and for the year’s school work. The Chairman was appointed to preside at the prize-giving ceremonies. Other minor matters were discussed, and the meeting rose.
