THE SAND DRIFT MENACE.
Mr W. H. Field, M.P., has received a letter from the Hon. W. Eosworthy, Minister for Agriculture, in reply to representations made by him regarding the necessity for dealng Avith-the* huge areas of sandy lands in this country, as follows: — “I may say that your representations regarding this matter will receive careful consideration. The problem, as yon are aware, lias already received a good deal of attention from the Department ot Lands and Agriculture, and is now being considered by the f orestry Department*, the solution of the question probably depending to a large extent uporr afforestation operations. My Department is already carrying out experimental evork Avith sand-binding plants north of Auckland, and hopes to be in possession of sufficient information to enable the whole problem of sandy areas to be dealt with when the time comes.”
