SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The ordinary meeting of the local State' School Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs Ilornbtow (chairman), Claris (secretary), Alexander, Geo. Coley, W. Petrie, Perreau, P. Robinson, Jim. Ross, A. Stevenson, and the head teacher (Mr Fitrrie). Correspendenee was received from the Board, .mating that lender,-' were to he called for septic lank, latrines, and shelter sheds. On the motion of .Messrs Coley and Robinson it was decided to write the Board to ibis effect, The suh-eom-mittee reported re erection of bicycle shelter, that it had been decided to hold over same until a permanent fence had been creeled. Plan end specifications for entrance gate was received from the Board architect. The cost of same-was staled by the Chairman to he approximately £2OO. ft was decided to hold over this matter in the meantime, find a sub-committee consisting of Messrs Coley. Ross and Claris was appointed, with power to act, in reference to the erection of wooden gate, ft was reported that the tennis court had been top-dressed and other work in the grounds carried out. The head teacher reported that the prevalence of mumps and measles was interfering with the attendance. The average attendance for the quarter ending September 30th was 173 boys and 138.67 girls, a total of 311.70 out of an average total of 397. The average number of children absent during the past three months was 80. During the past quarter the roll number has risen from 391 to 412; 05 were admit led ami 44 withdrawn. Accounts were passed for payment. Messrs Stevenson and Claris were appointed visitors for the month.
