LEGISLATION THIS SESSION
A deputation from Nelson, Tauranga and Waikato wailed mi the Prime .Minister yesterday, seeking an amendment of I lie Local RailAvays Act lo permiKihe constraelion of narrow-gauge lines.
Replying to the representatives, Mr Ma-sey said he had seen nar-row-gauge lines doing useful Avork in Franco, and he knew fhat in Belgium they had been long in use. They had been useful in Tasmania, and he though! theyAvould he a success in New Zealand, especially in ■ districts Avhich suffered a scarcity of good metal for their roads. During - the present session Parliament would have a chance to pass amending legislation, as suggested. The empowering Bill would he introduced by the Minister for Public Works, .and would not be delayed long.
