THE HEMP INDUSTRY.

MAY GRADING RETURNS-

The following return, issued by the Department of Agriculture, gives details of the hemp and tow graded throughout the Dominion during the month of May: Hemp. —The total number of bales graded was 8,294, a§ compared with 6,558 for the corresponding month last year, an increase of 1,730 bales. For the 12 months ended. 31st May, ,1620, the number of bai?s graded was 92,820, as compared with 119,158 for the previous 12 months, a decrease of 26,338 bales.

Tow. — During the month 1,587 bales were graded, as compared with 1,248 for the , corresponding month last year, an increase of 389 bales. For the 12 months ended SlstMay, 1920, the number of bales graded was 20,105, as compared with 18,492 for the previous 12 months, an increase of 1,613 hales.

Stripper-slips.— Nil. Corresponding month last year, nil. For twelve months ended 31st May, 1920, 132 hales, as compared with 599 for the previous 12 months—a decrease of 467 haies. ’ . ■
