An elderly farmer named John Sharp, of Uongahere, attacked his children during Saturday, hut the children got away from him. Later in the evening he again attacked two of them. One escaped, but the other, a little girl aged seven years, had tier head battered. Dr. Steuhouse and a constable were summoned by neighbours, but the child died while being convoyed to the Dunedin hospital. Airs Sharp had been in delicate health, and was staying in Dunedin. Sharp gave himself up to the police at Lawrence, saying that he had struck one of his girls, but thought she was all right.
