MEETING OF COUNCIL. A meeting of the Council of the local Chamber of Commerce was bold last night, the President, Mr J. ,M. Barr, presiding. Correspondence, as follows, was read and received : From the Retailers’ Association, asking the Chamber to take into eonsidcrafion the question of endeavouring to get another bank to open a branch locally.— It was deluded that this matter he deferred for the present. From the Minister for Marine, in reply to the Chamber's second request for information as to Government assistance for the Fishing Indus try, advising that the Regulations in connection with same would be gaze!ted shortly, and a copy would then be forwarded to Ibe Chamber,

Air Moorhouse, Ihe Chamber delegate at the annual conference of delegates from Chambers of Commerce throughout tin* Dominion, held recently in Wellington, gave-a verbal report of the business tran-meted at the conference, and was accorded a verv hearty vote oi thanks tor the very excellent report furni.-hod. The following resignations were accepted: Messrs T. Henderson ami J. \V. Stevenson. Mr Perreau mentioned that it was intended to have it “working bee on Easton Park on Saturday afternoon next, to clear and level the ground ami otherwise improve same. All tlm-c able to do so were urged lo turn up and give a hand with the work. A telegram was read .from Air Edward Newman, ALP., advising that if convenient to .the Chamber he would be pleased to mod members on Wednesday (to-morrow) night, at 7.30 o’clock, to discuss ’matters of interest to the district. It was decided to hold a special meeting to meet Air Newman, and all members of the Chamber are invited lo be -present.
