GEN BRA L. A letter was received from the Palmerston North Borough Council suggesting that, the Manawalu County Council present cards to each child in its district as a memento of (he visit of the Prince of Wales. — It; Avas deidded by (he Council, lioavever, that photographs of the reception at Palmerston North and Eeilding be taken, atid a copy he sent to each school in the district. A letter Avas received from the Wanganui Education Board respecting the out-ofKiecs at the Glen Groua school, staling that, the School Committee proposed to arrange to raise half the cost of insailing a septic tank system, and asking that plans he prepared. The plans had been submitted to the committee in May last, the estimated cos( being £137. The committee had •written to the Education Board in October, hut had received no reply. The Board uoav replied staling that its funds did not permit of the Avhole cost of the proposed septic tank system being borne by the Board, and therefore there Avas nothing left to be done but to install the pan system. This Avould be done as early as possible.—Cr. Barber said that the Board was misinformed. The committee had not, at any time, offered to raise half (he cost. The present, system was highly dangerous, and it was not fair to expect the committee to contribute to the cost. They had also contributed very largely to the construction of baths and other conveniences. He stated that the committee Avould not rest until they had Ilk* septic lank system installed. GENERAL BUSINESS.

.Resolved that .steps be taken to place before the ratepayers the proposal to raise a loan of £30,000 for tramway, crushing plant, etc., ami that a circular letter notifying ratepayers to that effect be sent out. Crs. Hunt, Barber and the clerk were deputed to attend a conference at Levin with reference to the formation of a hydro-electric board. The chairman: “Our account is now £4,000 to the bad.” —“Up go the rales!’’ said Or. Boyce. —The chairman added that they had started the year with a credit balance of £4,600, and the clerk pointed out that £1,500 'had been spent on tram rails, etc,; of loan inoneys the sum of £2,000 had.been spent. - It was decided Unit the action of

the overseer in accepting the following contracts be approved:—Messrs Hurst mid Clausen (carting metal on Hirer Hank road), and f. Petersen (carting metal to Whitlow’s road). It was resolved that the special order' authorising the raising of a loan of £2,000 ‘for workers’ dwel- ft! lings lie continued, and that for the purpose of providing the necessary charges the Council make and levy a rate of l-12th of a penny in the pound.
