ON THE ARK.
The Clmstglmrch Sun lias been much concerned over the possible fate of our touring politicians, and voids its relief thus:—Thank Heaven for wireless! for two long days end three black nights New Zealand fas been brooding over the fate of its 40 gallant voyagers, tossed since Tuesday on we have known not what wild, waves. The day after they left ns a hurricane swept Rarotonga. On Wednesday morning' ;; eapricions breeze smote the waters at few Brighton. There was fog on tin' hills -IS hours ago, and the winds perhaps swept it north over the Mokoia. At .10 yesterday morning .there was a lowering sky. At noon rain fell. At. bedtime —hut thank Heaven for Marconi, w<* say! Our forebodings arc all groundless. No storm has conic; no riot on hoard. The M'okoia is speeding north undersunny skies, caressed by a gentle northerly breeze. The Bolsheviks have not yet produced their bombs. Sir .lames Alien has not 1 brown Mr Henry Holland overboard. Dr. Chesson has pul everyone on guard against eating 100 much, possibly against drinking 100 much, certainly, against the wily anophele. A mysterious physical culturist front Dunedin is on dock each morning conducting “Jerks.” We see no re<ference to devotional exercises, hut. as one member at least is a fledgling Presbyterian divine (hey will not have been omitted. Then it certainly is cheering to know that Charlie Chaplin has not been forgotten—the reference to “scenes of island life” is, of course, Parliamentary language only. There are books, quoits, no doubt, cigars, cards and 'other delights nnnameahle. And in the next dispatch we expect to hear of choruses ■' and songs—“ Pack up. Your Troubles,” say, by the chair-
man: “Yon Can’t Change It,” by the member for Awarua, and perhaps, “Watchman, What of the Night?” by Messrs Hamm and Craigie. It will he cruel if with the weather fair, and the “prospects continuing foe happy relations,” the thought of constituents-, stewardship, and all that kind of thing, comes betimes’to Furrow (he mure anxious brows. Free, gratis and For nothing, members have made away with a ship; with a good cargo of eatables and drinkables, with medical attendants, professional entertainers, and comparatively few curses from those who are going to pay the piper. If they allow conscience (■ » worry them now when the deed is done, they deserve to be brought back on a wind-jammer.
