PROPOSED RIVER BOARD.
DEPUTATfON TO .MINISTER. In connection with the (proposed formation of a River Board for the purpose of making a cut from near the Maori Church i at Moutoa to enter the river again to the south of Mr Nye’s mills, as a means of dealing with the Hooding menace, a deputation cupsiting of Messrs J. Chrystall, J. E. Baldwin, Neilson, MeEvvan, Pearce and Gower, yesterday Availed on the Minister for Public Works (Hon. Sir \\ m. Fraser), and placed the proposal before him, with a request .that an engineer from Hie Department- should be sent up lo revise the estimates’ for this, scheme, which was considered by a Royal- Commission about 10 years ago. The deputation avus introduced by Mr E. Newman, M.P. Sir William Fraser was very sympathetic Avith the proposal, and urged the immediate formation of a River Board to carry the scheme out.’ He agreed to ulloav Mr Fur-, kett. Departmental Engineer, to visit the district and reA T ise the scheme and estimates, and Mr J nrkett is at present, in Foxton for this purpose. ■ Together witli members of the deputation he Avent over the route of the proposed cut to-day.
