In Hawkes Bay a good quality leaf has been produced for .Vears, and a satisfactory tobacco is being manufactured there. Smokers should rqfuse to purchase another ounce of. tobacco until prices are fairly adjusted by the Board of Trade, and meantime every effort should be made to establish the tobacco industry in our own country. There is every good reason why the State should step in here. 'Better a State monopoly, with all protits (and they are enormous) accruing to the Government, than the further building up of a monopolistic syndicate suelf as that which now controls the tobacco market.
