LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT.

A serious accident happened at Palmerston yesterday afternoon on the level crossing at .Monrad Hired: on the Eoxton line. As the Napier express' for Wellington approached the crossing a vehicle was noticed crossing the line, but although the train was pulled up promptly it struck the vehicle. The occupants, Mr iind' Mrs Sandford, ol Monrad Street, were thrown- on), and both were seriously injured. The vehicle was smashed and the horse was decapitated and disembowelled. Mr and Mrs Sandford, who are an elderly couple, were removed to the hospita I. Mrs Hanford is in a precarious condition, but Mr Sandford s condijLiou is not so very serious. Later.
