BOWLING.
The first match this season for the Nye Ferns was played on the local green yesterday afternoon, when the colts’ team, which won the trophies towards the latter end of last season, were defeated -by *a rink skipped by Dr. Mandl. In the holders’ team Henderson took the place of Jno. Ross, who was absent. The first eight heads were closely contested, the scores at the afternoon tea adjournment being seven all. On, resuming play, however, the challenger* scored on several heads in succession, and maintained their lead until the finish. The teams and scores were: Roore Henderson Bryant MeKnight Christie Paine Mandl (s) 25 Huntley (s) 12 The next challengers for the Nye Ferns are: Hcasman, Mercer, F. Whibley, Barr (>). The first game in the Triangular contest between Levin, Foxton and Shannon will be played at Levin on ihe 19,th instant.
