MR. COLVIN, M.P., KILLED.
FUN OVER BY A TRAM AT ’ ■ PARLIAMENT GATE. Wellington, Last Night. -The House adjourned suddenly at 10.45 p.m.,- on Mr Masseys motion, after the news had been received of . death by accident of Mr J. Colvin, the member for Bailor, and the senior member of the House. Mr Massey said Unit he felt the proper Ihing was to adjourn, even if this course involved some prolongation of the session. Mr Colvin was killed outside the gales of Parliament. Buildings, through being run over by a tram. He h’ad just left the House, and his death was a painful shock to members. From the appearance of (ho body, death is believed to have resulted from concussion. Sir Joseph "Ward, Air G, Witty and Air F. AleCallum, M’s.P., who were personal friends of deceased, arranged for the removal of the body to llie mortuary chapel. Members who gathered to dismiss the sad news were greatly concerned over the tragic end ofc one ol their colleagues, meeting with sudden death within a few minutes after leaving the House. Deceased, who was a most popu- . lar member in Parliament, was universally known as “um.de,” because of his venerable appearance. He entered Parliament 20 years ago, and was a prominent member of the Alines Committee. He hold the chairmanship of committees under the Ward Government, and was Minister for Alines in the Mackenzie administration. He had announced his intention of retiring from polities this election.
