FORTY YEARS AGO.
(From “The Maim wain Hern Id,” October 31st, 1879.) Femoral. —The business connected with the “Manawatn Herald” will in future be transacted at the new' offices, opposite the Courthouse. T Pklucation Board. —At the Education Board meeting on Wednesday last, the application of the Foxtou Committee to have the sexes separated was rejected, the Inspector „ having reported strongly against it. Steamboat Company. —A meeting of persons interested in obtaining a suitable steamer for trading purposes in the Alanawatii,Otaki, and Fangitikei rivers was held on Wednesday last, Mr Tbynne in the chair. There were nine people present. Mr Thynne stated that 49 shares, representing £490, luid been taken in Hie proposed company, and it was those present to discuss the matter more fully in regard to detail and decide if any further steps lie taken. The plans of a ,new steamer, which a Wellington engineer had offered to build, were laid on the table for inspection. The cliawanan also stated that had been received of yesscls already built and lit for sea. After a lengthy discussion the meeting was adjourned for n week in order to allow some more information to be obtained from Wellington.
