MOVING PICTURES.
NATIONAL CONTROL URGED. Moving pictures were discussed at the conference of the Municipal Association of New Zealand, at Wellington last week. The subject was brought up by the moving of the following remit forwarded by the Hastings Borough Council“ That the importation of lilms of moving pictures and their distribution to managers be nationalised and controlled by the Government.” Mr G. Ebbett, Mayor of Hastings, moved the motion. Mr H. S. W. King (Devonport), who seconded the remit, urged that it would he for the benefit of the Dominion if (Unis could be better controlled. Miss E. Melville (Auckland) spoke of the increase in juvenile crime in Auckland traceable to the effect of some pictures. She strongly criticised the style of “drama” pictures being shown at present, which, she contended, were not; dramatic, but sensational melodrama of tbe worst type. Tiiere was further discussion; the class of picture and the control of the supply coming in for some severe criticism, and eventually the remit was carried.
