FORTY YEARS AGO.
(From “The Maimwalu Herald,” September 12! h, 1870.) Immigrants. —The ship liakaia arrived at Wellington on Monday last from Plymouth, with n large number of immigrants, including b*7 single women, and 00 single men. Twenty-five of the immigrants arc destined for the Manawatu district, and will probably arrive to-day per Stormhird. Shearing.—The Masterfon farmers have decided to pay shearer* 17s (id per 100 sheep daring the coining season. The Osprey.—On Wednesday last Messrs Thynne, Linton and Co. offered for sale the p.s. Osprey. There was a good attendance. The bidding started at £l5O, and gradually rose to £305, at which amount the little boat was knocked down to Mr J. W. Liddell. We are glad the steamer Is to stay on the river.
