EDUCATION VOTES.
• MAY EXCEED £1,000,000. . Among the questions to which Mr Massey replied in the House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon was one by-Mr Harris to the Minister of Education. Mr Harris wanted to know Whether the Minister will tins year provide at least an additional £1,000,000 for immediate expenditure under that heading? Mr Massey replied that proposals are at present under the consideration of the Government for increases in the votes for education, to enable better provision to be made for the salaries of teachers in public schools, fpr increases in the grants for secondary, technical, and University education, and for educational buildings. Particulars of the increase will be made known when the Estimates arc- laid before Parliament, and may, in the total, exceed the sum named in the question.
