FOXTON LADIES’ PATRIOTIC GUILD.

Yesterday afternoon saw the closing afternoon of the Ladies’ Guild. There was a good attendance, about 25 members being present. The Guild commenced operations in February, 1015, and worked for the wounded soldiers, (be men in camp, and at the front, and for the poor of Great Britain and Belgium. The members of the Ladies’ Guild also managed the Patriotic Shop on behalf of the local Patriotic Society, for the benefit of the returned men of (his district. The sliop realised £622 7s Bcl from its commencement to March, 1017; £6BB 17s 7d from 1917 to March, 1918; and £661 4s from March, 19.18, to the end of 1918, making in all a total of £1,972 9s 3d.

After afternoon tea had been dis. pensed, presentations were made to the president, Mrs F. Robinson, and the joint secretaries, Mrs Moore and Miss J. A. Ross —much to the surprise of the recipients, who were taken quite unawares. Mrs Robinson wishes to publicly thank Mesdames Hamer, Hawke and Greig for the use of sewing machines, the “Herald” for valuable assistance in making public the affairs of the Guild by the generous use of the paper without charge, the Borough Council for the free us'e of the Council room, Mr Andresen for free carting, Airs Sexton for her attention, and all those who have helped in any way to make (lie Guild the success it has been. The Red Cross Society of Wellington asked the Guild to go on working for the sick and wounded in N.Z. hospitals, hut (he War Funds Department has announced that this fund must cease to exist, and (he hank balance he handed over to .the central fund, or to the local Patriotic Society, so the Guild decided to hand over its balance of £177 to the local Society’s fund for the, returned soldiers.

The Secretary is making lists, of the number of garments made, and the cases sent away since the Guild commenced work, and these will he published later.
