FIRE AT CARTERTON.
CONSIDERABLE LOSS
Carterton, Yesterday,
A disastrous fire occurred last night, Hughan’s garage and Pitcher Bros.' cycle depot being totally destroyed. From indications, the outbreak started in Pitchers’, and from there spread to Hughan’s. The whole of the stocks of both premises were lost. In the garage were thirty cars, sewn of which belonged to Mr Hughan. All were destroyed. The fire was discovered at 1.10 by the occupants of a motor lorry returning from Martlnborough, but both buildings were too far gone to save. ,
Hughan’s insurances total a little over £6OO on buildings and stock, and Pitchers’ £2,000 on the stock. Hughan estimates his loss at between £3,000 and £4,000. Pitchers’ loss is about £2,000. Both of the businesses were in the one building.
