FEILDING AND THE LOCAL PORT.
Apart from the fact that Feihling ratepayers have a representative at its deliberations, this (own and district should take more Ilian a passing interest in the affairs of the Foxton Harbour Board, says the Feihling Star. For some day there is going to lie a and intimate business connection between our nearest seaport and Feihling. The’ gap between Foxton and Feihling will probably (as it should) be filled by the construction of a light-line, narrow-gauge railway, driven by electric power very likely by means of the storage system. That may be looking forward to some time—but it is not looking a day farther ahead than the completion of the Stale 'hydro-electric power works for this coast. The Foxton Harbour Board is also getting ready for developments. At its latest meeting it decided upon a forward movement, and adopted a scheme of works that at long last is going to make the port adequate to deal with the trade that should drain into and out of it. Happy is the countryside which has an outlet to the sea, and now that Poxton’s port is out of the greedy and miserly grip of the Railway Department, there should be a decided development. For the sake of Feihling’s future we watch the progressive policy of the Foxton Harbour Board with great interest.
