SOCIAL INSTITUTE.
TO BE OPENED IN PONTON,
The Salvation Army have decided to further add to their responsibilities by catering for the social life of the young men of New Zealand. It has been recognised for some time by the authorities that a large number of young men are untouched by any organisation, and with the splendid success of the institutes in the various camps in mind, the Army has determined to follow the work into civil life, and a start is to he made in Foxton. Captain Goffin has secured the late residence of Dr. Maudl, and a start has been made to re-model the interior, and to make the building as comfortable and attractive as possible. It is expected that the building will he ready for opening at the end of this month, and we understand Commissioner Hodder and staff will conduct the formal ceremony. A meeting will lie held next week, to which the public will be invited, when Captain Goffin will place the scheme before the people of Foxton, who, we are sure, will render all the support possible to encourage the Captain in his effort to meet a long-felt local need.
