PEACE CELEBRATIONS.

LIMITED TO ONE DAY,

THANKSGIVING TO-MORROW.

Wellington, July 3,

The Minister of Internal Affairs to-day made the following announcement: —Late last night a cable was received from the Imperial Government notifying that a change had been made in connection with the peace celebrations. It has now been resolved by the Imperial authorities that thanksgiving religious services shall take place on Sunday next throughout the Empire, being the first Sunday after the declaration of peace. It has also been decided, with His Majesty’s sanction, to hold celebrations in the United Kingdom on Saturday, 10th July, and to have all the celebrations on one day. In order that New Zealand may act in accoi’dance with His Majesty’s wishes, Cabinet has resolved that the previous decision to hold three days of peace celebrations shall be cancelled, and that the celebrations shall take place in New Zealand on the same day as in the Mother Country. Heads of churches have therefore been communicated with in accordance with His Majesty’s wish, and Hie Government has resolved that the celebrations in, New Zealand shall take place on Saturday, 19th July. The necessary notification has.been forwarded to all local authorities throughout the Dominion.
