COAL MINERS GO OUT.

STRIKE AT PUKE MIRO COLLIERIES. Auckland, June 5. A strike has been declared by the miners in the employ of the Pukemiro Colleries, Ltd., and work at (lie mine was ceased on Wednesday. The company employs about 150 men, the output being between 400 and 500 tons daily. The strike is due to the miners’ check inspectors being refused admittance to scaledoff workings in the mine. The men contend that noxious gases are |fesent in these workings, but the management contends it is a customary practice in coal mines not working under water to completely cut off access to old workings.
