Wellington, May IS. General Russell was entertained aj; dinner by the Government on Saturday. Replying to the toast of his health, General Russell uvjft'le speeial referenee to the work of the New Zealand Tunnelling Corps in France. Also to the treatment most likely to he appreeiated by soldiers returning to New Zealand. Many popple could write a cheque for £SO or so, but it was personal service that was wanted. Better to give a pound or two and ensure by personal service and human sympathy that it was being well spent for the benefit of the soldier than simply to write a cheque for £SO and,' I*' 1 *' nothing more. “The men don’t waihJ charity, they want love, and the real helping hand which all can give.?
