PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
OFFICIAL VISIT BY THE . .. MODERATOR, The Right Rev. Gray-Dixon,*^j3p , »- crator of (ho Presbyterian Church in New Zealand, visited Foxton yesterday, In the afternoon he aee ed toainnvitation to dclivar a shorf address to the upper classes of the local State school; He spoke interestingly to the children on Japan. In the evening he met the local congregation in the church, where he ■ was cordially welcomed hy the Rev. J. 11. Bredin, on behalf of the Foxton congregation, and he delivered' a very interesting and charming address on “Old Japan.” Prior to the address the Moderator expressed his pleasure at meeting the local members face to face. He referred to the work of (he late Rev. Jas. Duncan, one of the pioneer missionaries to the Maoris. He also spoke of the historic position of the Presbyterian Church as a branch of the one Catholic Church of God, and stilted that when a minister dained il was not as a minis!c^of
a, congregation or denomination, but as a Presbyter of the Catholic Church. He wished the local church every success. His lecture on “Old Japan” was splendidly delivered. He spoke of the charming customs of these ancient people, the dynasty, form of Government, natural attractions of the country, etc. The lecture was keenly appreciated, interesting and educational. At the conclusion, Mr Hornblow moved a very hourly vote of thanks to the Moderator, which was Mr Claris, and carried by acclamation. At the conclusion of the ideating those present were-entertained at supper by the lady members of the congregation. To-night the Moderator visits (he Shannon congregation, when he will be entertained at a social gathering.
