HARBOUR MATTERS.
The Chairman of the Eoxton HarBour Bflard (Mr P. Heniiessy) had a busy time in Wellington,last week in connection with various interests of the Board and district, particularly in the matter of shipping, dredging and trade to the port. Every effort is being made by the owners (The Queen Shipping Co., Ltd.) to provide a vessel to replace I lie “Queen of the South.”
The agents in Wellington for dredge* ere expecting del nils hy any mail now of the drudge selected as most suitable fur .Foxton, ami inquiries are also being made from other quarters.
The engineer is at work on the preparation of (he plan of the .Board's foreshore of sites suitable for warehouses and distributing stores. In connection with the Vacuum Oil Company’s application for a site for a bulk and distributing store for the storage of benzine, kerosene and oils, the manager of the Company proposes to visit Foxton in the near future for the purpose of conferring with members of the Harbour Board and Borough Council.
Among other matters inquired into by the Chairman was the conveyance of material required in connection with the Mangahao hydroelectric scheme. He ascertained that there would be about 1,700 tons of material required, and that, the engineer proposed to get same through the Foxton port, as this would bo the cheapest, and most convenient. The engineer proposes visiting f oxton shortly in this connection.
Altogether Mr efforts are likely to be of great value to the district, ■
