THE MOANA TRAGEDY.
AN OPEN VERDICT’
Wellington, Fob. 8. The enquiry into the Moana tragedy has coneluded. In summing up, Mr Riddell, S.M., said that as tlie evidence before the court was so indefinite lie did not propose to speculate how the cyanide got into the drink. The verdict would he as follows: —That deceased, Dr. Grimm and Miss tsbisler, died at sea on January 3rd, 3DID. on hoard the s.s. Moana while on a voyage from San Francisco to Wellington. The cause of death was the drinking of part of lemon squash into which cyanide had been introduced through soda water used in its preparation There is no evidence to account for the presence of (he cyanide in the soda water in the bottle, nor evidence of any neglect in (he preparation of the soda water hy the manufacturers, and it is e.x,tremely doubtful it the cyanide could have been introduced through negligence or accident during the process; of manufacture. /
