WHAT BOLSHEVISM REALLY MEANS.
MURDER AS A MARK OF BROTHERHOOD. , British pacifists and conscientious objectors arc ready to cheer Lenin and I lie Bolshevists, though Bolshevism is as much the antithesis of peace and good-Avill as Kaiscrism. The Bolshevists themselves have taken pains to explain their impossible doctrines. Only a crazily obstinate blindness can fail to understand for what they stand. Bolshevism is ruthless, “frightful,” red war against properly and the insliiitions of (he Stale. It is the deliberate attempt to reach the millennium by way of destruction, rapine, ami assassination. Lenin himself has declared the necessity for “(lie nipst frightful dost ruction and Hie most sanguinary terror.” Government of any kind must hu swept away. Possessions, of any and every kind must be taken away from their possessors. Restraint must he abolished. The policeman must he regarded as (he symbol’of tyranny, and Bill Sykes must be accepted as (lie type of citizen of the future. That is the beginning. But if properly he theft, as Proudhon declared, then (lie Bolshevists add, Avith irresistible logic, (hat every man and Amman who has ever held properly must lie a thief, and must at once bo pul lo death. Similarly every ex-Stale official, Avhether ho he a Monarchist or a Socialist, must be promptly killed. A Bolshevist country cannot be safe if it contains one individual who is. not a Bolshevist. Therefore Lenin lias re-established in Moscow the old secret police, the worst feature of Uzardoni, and workmen as well as bourgeois live in peril of denunciation by veuai spies. Further, the Bolshevists realise that their war against all that is must be international if ills to have the smallest chance of success. .Money, therefore, received from (he German Imperial Government, (which lias .justly paid dearly for its alliance with the anarchists), and the spoils of revolution have both been spent with a free hand in fomenting trouble outside Russia. It is known that Litvinoff expended considerable sums in Great Britain, and u list of its recipients would be a valuable explanation of many recent events. The horror of life under the Russian Bolshevists will proha lily hinder the spread of the Bolshevist doctrines elsewhere. British humour and eoiumonsense. and the British love for freedom and law, Avill certainly he sufficient to save this country from the assassins Avho deny democracy in the name of freedom, and use murder as a proof of their devotion to universal brotherhood. —London Express.
